Endoscopic Gastric Balloon
The Gastric Balloon has been used in obesity treatment for many years. It creates a feeling of satiety and, as it takes up space, acts as a volume reducer in the stomach. Today, it is the most used intra-gastric device.
There are liquid or air inflatable types. In addition, the volume can be adjusted and the types that are swollen have been developed from human skin. Those with liquid content can be inflated about 400-800 ml.
Depending on the type of gastric balloon, the gastric balloon can remain in the stomach for 6 to 12 months. During long stays, complications such as infection, balloon deflation and corrosion can be observed. It can be applied multiple times.
Loss of excess weight in obesity due to the short and mid-term gastric balloon is promising. However, long-term results are discussed. The stomach balloon is used for primary obesity treatment as well as a preliminary preparation for obesity surgery in super-obese patients. Patients lose 15-20% of their average weight, as long as they adapt to the diet given.
